24k Goldn Links with Cash Cobain
24kGoldn, who was featured in our first issue, just dropped “23 Freestyle,” an introspective lyrical stream of consciousness bolstered by an melancholic and eruptive production by Cash Cobain. The song arrives alongside a visual by Dakota Lim & Erik Saevi that captures Goldn’s versatility, as he delivers the lyrics across a wide variety of locales across the Bay Area.
The new song follows Goldn’s recent Good Intentions EP, which marked a turning point for the singer and songwriter. In the midst of reconciling the aftermath of his meteoric hit “Mood,” his songwriting took a turn inward, processing his upbringing as a mixed kid in the notorious Lakeview neighborhood of San Francisco. “I realized, while everyone knew my song, they didn’t know me and how could they? I still didn’t know me,” he stated upon the EP release. “23 Freestyle” is an apt demonstration that he is on the other side of this process, working on a new set of material with an assuredness that befits his evolving craftsmanship – or as he states in the song “23, I’m finally in my bag.”
