MARVIN x Bloom Twins: The Ukranian-born sisters channel darkness into cathartic and powerful pop

What do you call moody electronic music with catchy pop hooks? If you are the Bloom Twins, aka 29-year-old identical twin musicians Anna and Sofia Kuprienko, you call it “dark pop,” a mixture of two genres — and two personalities — that thrives on contradiction. Each twin brings a different element, and just like in real life, they complement each other. Sofia takes the reins for the duo’s sharp pop melodies, while Anna brings darkness to the production. “Aggressive probably wouldn’t be the word…” she says, speaking on a summer phone call. “But something ballsy, you know?” There is something very ballsy about both of the Bloom Twins. You can hear that in their new single “Mama Maria” with Reinier Zonneveld, a high-energy, vibrant whirlwind with a thudding bass line.

The duo moved from Ukraine to London on their own at age 16. They taught themselves English, while working towards their music and modeling dreams. In the time since, the duo has gained recognition in the music world from the likes of BBC and MTV, and been part of fashion week events for Dior, Louboutin, and Tommy Hilfiger x Zendaya.
