Trio Band Julie on New Album and Prioritizing True Expression
Los Angeles-based trio julie has mastered the art of tension in its controlled-clashing rhythmic bleed. Keyan Pourzand’s grainy guitar distortion transforms from a sting to a numbing cool, like scraped skin coming alive with its own soothing pulse. Dillon Lee’s drums oscillate between sleek and caustic — a gnawed-away road mid-construction. And Alexandria Elizabeth’s bass is a forthright pummel, easing each song closer to the kiss of collision or collapse. Pourzand and Elizabeth’s chilly vocals pacify their music’s itchy-sweater propulsion. So it’s no surprise that, with such tactility, the trio’s creative process revolves around what feels right.
