MARVIN Exclusive: Mothica Lives in the In-Between

There’s the show, then there’s what sticks after. Mothica is living in that in-between—where Somewhere In Between stops being a release and starts hitting in real time. On this run, it’s not the big moments, it’s the human ones: small, unexpected, and impossible to fake. The kind that proves the connection is actually there.
MARVIN: Tour life has its own rhythm—what’s been the moment on this run that’s stuck with you the most once the night’s over?
MOTHICA: The moments I remember most are the crowd interactions. A couple moments stand out, one being a two person mosh pit in Dallas, TX. Not even moshing, but just two strangers holding hands and jumping up and down during my song. It was so wholesome, and shows you the sweetness of my fanbase. Another moment is a new fan who went to the concert alone and came up to me at the merch booth, he said “I don’t know who you are but when you gave your Forever Fifteen speech, i felt like you were talking directly to me. And i needed to hear that.” Moments like that make me feel like Im doing the right thing and impacting someone.
MARVIN: How has being on the road changed the way “Somewhere In Between” feels to you now compared to when you first released it?
MOTHICA: Well, I’ve never done things in a traditional album cycle way of releasing an EP or album and then touring immediately, and now it makes so much sense why artists do that. Like, duh! Getting to share the new music when it’s new is so special. And sometimes post release, I can feel a bit lost or aimless and going on tour a few days after it came out, I feel like I’m keeping the energy up and sharing new music with the fans and finding completely new listeners too.

MARVIN: Every city hits different—have there been any crowds or rooms on this tour that completely shifted your energy mid-set?
MOTHICA: I journal about each city every night on tour! The standout was the Palladium Upstairs in Worcester, MA. I shared with the crowd that it was “exposure therapy” playing there because last time I was in Massachusetts, my long term relationship fell apart. It was a really hot show and the stage was super close, so I could be right at eye level with fans which I haven’t played like that in a long time. The energy was palpable and everyone was so excited to be there, so I’m happy I got to make new memories in Massachusetts.
MARVIN: What does a show day look like for you right now, and where do those songs from “Somewhere In Between” fit into that flow?
MOTHICA: I wake up. Meet the band/crew in the lobby. Drive to the venue, which is usually 2-5 hours away. Journal. Find the green room. Soundcheck. Find food. Write on my setlists. Lay out my show outfit. Do my vocal warmup. Play the show. Go to merch to meet fans. Wait for loadout. Get to the hotel. Rearrange my suitcase for the next batch of shows. Repeat! We tour in a sprinter van and get hotels so touring is a LOT of driving, sharing rooms and very little privacy. We only have a 40 minute set this tour so we are playing a lot of older songs and only two from the recent EP, wish I could play more!

MARVIN: There’s a certain solitude that comes with touring—have you found yourself writing or thinking about new music in those in-between moments?
MOTHICA: Oh yes, sometimes i’ll get hit with inspiration to listen to the demos from my next record and rearrange the order, make notes. I’ve even tried to write to instrumentals in the van, just whispering into my voice memos, but that’s a little tricky. I’m finishing the record when I get home from tour, so there is a lot to figure out with the visuals and the songs of course, and tour has inspired some really fun merch ideas too!
MARVIN: Are there songs in your set right now—especially from the EP—that feel heavier or more freeing each night as you perform them?
MOTHICA: WEAPON is a BLAST to perform. There’s this crazy explosion sound in the breakdown which no one expects and I love hearing everyone’s reaction. I feel powerful playing that song. The heaviest (emotionally) song to perform is my stripped version of “forever fifteen” — which is the emotional ballad about my suicide attempt. I have to be careful to not make eye contact with people or I’ll start crying.

MARVIN: Being on stage night after night, do you feel like you’re already stepping into the next era—what can you hint at in terms of what’s coming next?
MOTHICA: I feel like the EP and the following album are connected because I wrote the music all at the same time. I didn’t know it was going to be an EP and then album, I just had this huge batch of songs I was making to process everything I went through over the last couple years. It was all finished post rehab and so there’s this through line in both, and now I’m just adding a few more flavors of what “heavy” mothica sounds like to round out the record.
MARVIN: When this tour wraps, do you see it as closing the chapter on “Somewhere In Between”, or does it feel more like the bridge into whatever you’re building next?
MOTHICA: It’s definitely the bridge to the album, and still have fun plans for Somewhere In Between. It might even get a special remix treatment like I did for Nocturnal. As long as there’s interest in my music, I’ll be able to keep revisiting it for tour setlists and new versions. I’m so excited for everyone to hear this next evolution.

This isn’t a closing chapter—it’s a shift. The EP bleeds straight into what’s next, heavier and more defined but still wide open. Mothica’s not looking back, she’s building forward, night by night. And right now, it’s all still unfolding.
