Shane Gonzales, founder of fashion label MIDNIGHT STUDIOS, is a good friend of the magazine so when we wanted to do a fashion feature set in LA, he was the first person we called. We’re delighted he had the time in his schedule to create something great for us.

“For this shoot I pulled several of my favorite styles from my new Fall/Winter 2022 collection titled, Candy Darling. I also selected some personal wardrobe items from my favorite modern designers, such as Givenchy by Matthew Williams, Balenciaga by Demna Gvasalia, and Kapital by Kiro Hirata.”

Following a theme which reflects the subcultural icons behind Andy Warhol’s iconic Silver Factory days in New York City, the spread also highlights some of the prominent superstars that influenced generations to come. “Each look itself was a mix of what I just spoke about, but some key muses in the wardrobe include Mr. Andy Warhol himself in his confident, analytical and ambitious stature,” Shane says of the collection.

“I’ve also used leather and studs to mirror the cool, collected, mysterious composure behind The Velvet Underground and those who often shared the room with them. And the almost concluding muse of the entire collection, and the inspiration behind the title, is Ms. Candy Darling. When designing the collection, I looked to the confidence, fearlessness and talent that Candy portrayed while she was alive. A lot of the garments I designed in this collection were a reflection of each muse and their personal wardrobe with hidden details inside and out; subtle hints of my personal views of that time period. I’ve recreated some styles actually seen on the likes of Lou Reed, Candy Darling, Warhol…but put a MIDNIGHT STUDIOS spin on them.”
