MARVIN x Acyde: The self-identified counter-culture doula on unconventional success and disrupting the status quo.

Fashion maverick Acyde doesn’t care about validation. At least not in the traditional sense. “It’s purely about self-satisfaction,” says the LA-based creative, speaking of how he gauges success. “It’s being able to just get through life knowing that this is what makes me feel like me.”

Since co-founding the creative collective No Vacancy Inn in 2015 alongside Denim Tears founder Tremaine Emory and A&R strategist Brock Korsan, Acyde has helped the group foster creative connection and cultural commentary, which manifests in raucous IYKYK parties, genre-colliding live concerts, and fashion collaborations with brands like Marni and Stüssy. In 2022, the collective released its “Born Canceled” capsule collection, which took aim at cancel culture. While fashion is a huge part of his creative output, music has been a renewed source of inspiration for the future.

“I’m excited about everything. Because I think post-Covid there was a lot of confusion about where we were. And I think all the spaces I worked within had to resolve or figure out how to move forward. And the music industry is the primary example of that.”

There’s no internship or certificate to endorse the work he’s doing, but where hard work is concerned, he doesn’t need any academic accolades to quantify his impact. “As far as culture goes, I’ve done more than my 10,000 hours,” he says. “I might have done 100,000 hours at this point.”
