The British Invasion Issue Editor’s Letter

I’ve got a deep love for all things British — be it music, fashion, culture, or graphic design. There’s just something about the UK that captivates me! Around five months ago, I came up with the concept for our “The British Invasion” issue, and we’ve been eagerly piecing it together since. When weighing up options for the perfect cover, there was really only one choice for me, Yungblud. He em-bodies the new wave of musical energy bursting out of the UK. His latest record, Idols, showcases his evolution as an artist and it’s inspiring.
We had a blast celebrating the issue and some of our favorite British artists at MARVIN Live this July, which we co-hosted at London’s Koko.
This issue features an array of incredible talents and friends such as the electrifying Lambrini Girls, Nova Twins, the iconic Shirley Manson from Garbage, and the legendary Paul Weller. We also had the chance to shoot and chat with Justin Hawkins from The Darkness. And let’s not forget the fresh voices of Sports Team, Florentenes, and Dead Writers. We’ve also included an intriguing piece on the Blitz scene in ‘80s London, diving deep into the spirit of the era. Plus, our visit to the Marshall Factory and Recording Studio led to an exciting feature you won’t want to miss.
Our British photographers—Ki Price, Diana Gomez, Michael Robert Williams, and Simon Emmett—joined forces to create a visually stunning collection of images, along with Jimmy Fontaine, who captured Yungblud for the cover.
A call out to our designer for this issue, Paul Sych and our music editor, Owen Myers and the many incredible writers that contribute every issue. The wonderful journalist Kerensa Cadenas met Yungblud for fish and chips in New York for our in-depth cover feature, while U.K.-based writers like Ali Shutler, Ben Jolley, and Kyle MacNeill captured the vibrancy of British music today in their features.
